DIY Christmas Wreath

Y'all, I just have to tell you that I'm not the craftiest person in the world.  I can bake, make oreo balls, throw together photobooks, and run around all day, but when it comes to crafts, I'm really just trying to learn what to do.  I've had some recent successes with turkeys the boys and I made before Thanksgiving, but there are still cut out salt dough ornaments made from the boys' handprints that are sitting in my laundry room waiting to be painted.  It's not that I don't want to be crafty, I do, I just don't always have time to finish my great ideas or time to practice doing something just right so it looks great.  I'm working on it.

I was so excited this past weekend though when my I put together my (as in I came up with it (and I'm sure plenty of these have been done elsewhere and it probably wouldn't be too hard to find something similar on Pinterest)) own crafty wreaths.

We have several mirrors downstairs that are fairly visible and I wanted to do something with them to Christmas them up.  A lightbulb went off and I decided to make some wreaths to hang on them.  I stopped by Hobby Lobby and picked up 3 wreaths.  I was going to purchase some wooden letters to paint Joy, Noel, and Peace, but stumbled across some large ornaments: Joy to the World, Peace on Earth, and Christ is Born.  They were sparkly and gold which went perfectly with the tartan ribbon I already had at home.

This whole craft cost less than $35 dollars and took maybe 20 minutes to pull together.

What You'll Need:
Artificial wreath (mine have a 9" opening)
Large ornament
Ribbon of your choice
Large suction cup

Putting Together Your Wreath:
  1. Fluff the branches of your wreath to make it look life-like.
  2. Cut the string on your large ornament in half and tie it to the upper right and left quadrants of your wreath
  3. Tie a long (I used about 18") ribbon around the top of your wreath and let the long end hang from the top.
  4. Make a bow and tie it onto the long ribbon on the top of your wreath.
  5. Put a suction cup on your mirror where you want the wreath to hang.
  6. Hang the wreath on the suction cup and take the long portion of your ribbon and put over the top of your wreath to make it appear as if it's hanging on the mirror with the ribbon.
  7. Smile, relish in your success, and take pictures of your wreath with your iPhone and send them to your mom because you're excited about your first real Christmas craft!
