Two Months! And Wedding Details!

I can't believe it's been two months since we got married!  These two months have been the best (and the fastest!).  I love being married to Kevin!

I realized that I haven't shared all of our wedding details with you, so I thought in honor of our two-month anniversary, I'd share them.  This is a longer post because I want to remember all the details. Sorry in advance.

If you haven't read our love story, you can catch up by reading this, this, and this.

Kevin and I knew we were going to get married, and this summer, we decided on the fall, specifically October 13.  We toyed with the idea of going away or having a small wedding on the beach because we both love it so much, but ultimately ended up getting married at our church and having a dinner after the ceremony in what is now our backyard.  We had a very small wedding with only 19 people including us.  And it was perfect!

With such a small wedding (and a tight time-frame; we got engaged September 4! Read about the dress and planning a wedding in five weeks), we decided to do most everything ourselves.

- My granddad, a retired minister, performed the ceremony.  It was so sweet to have him do this and I can't think of anything more special.
- My mom played for the ceremony.  She is an incredible musician and offered to play.  I really wanted to ask her, but thought she would rather watch.  I was so excited when she offered to play as long as she could see me coming down the aisle.
- Meredith, my sweet sister-in-law, sang.  Meredith has a gorgeous voice and I can't think of anyone I would have rather had sing at our wedding than her.
- Stephanie, my sister, served as my maid of honor and Kevin's dad was his best man.

(I previously wrote about the day of the wedding.)

The Flowers
I knew that I wanted to use hydrangeas and roses for our flowers and this was something else we (or I should say my mom, Meredith, Kevin's dad, and my best friend, Jaye) tackled ourselves.  We ordered large ivory hydrangeas from FiftyFlowers.com and green hydrangeas and Vendela roses from Sam's.  I was a little worried about ordering flowers, especially from Sam's, but after reading many reviews, we went ahead and did it.  I was overly impressed with the flowers that arrived from each and would definitely recommend using both vendors if you want fresh flowers, but don't need enough to have a bulk/wholesale order.

The night before the wedding, my mom, Kevin's dad, and Meredith were hard at work on the flowers.  They made arrangements for the round tables outside and for the church.  Prior to that, my mom made some wreaths to hang on the front doors of the church and then on the front and back doors of our house.  On the morning of the wedding, my mom made my bouquet, Jaye made Stephanie's bouquet and the boutonieers for the the men (KT, my dad, Kevin's dad, my granddad, and our sweet boys), and they put the remaining roses in a vase that Kevin's parents actually used for their wedding and we used on our food table.  At the end of the ceremony, the boys each gave me a rose.  It was so sweet! (And also about the only moment we don't have a picture of.)

The Music
I love music and I really wanted the music we used to reflect us.   "I Was Glad" by Hubert Parry was the last piece of the prelude.  The wedding party walked in to "Prelude" from Te Deum by Charpentier.  My mom played the "Saint Jude Fanfare" which was composed by Mark Hussey, a musician in Columbia, as a fanfare rather than having a chiming of the hour before my dad and I walked in to Jeremiah Clarke's "Prince of Denmark's March."

Meredith sang "Shine on Us" and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."  Both of those songs were so beautiful.  A few weeks ago, I was out running and had the boys in the jogging stroller and "Come Thou Fount" started playing on my iPhone.  K.C. made a comment about how that was from our wedding.  It was sweet!

After becoming man and wife, we walked out to Mendelssohn's "Wedding March."

The Dinner
We love Italian food and Kevin and I ate it on our first date, so it was only fitting that our wedding dinner be Italian.  We had a local restaurant cater it and it was good!  We had Chicken Tortellini Florentine, Lasagna, salad, and bread.  It wasn't your typical wedding dinner food, but it was us and so delicious!  They graciously used my serving pieces for the food, too, which was nice.

Outside, we had three round tables set up to eat at and another for the cake while we used a rectangular table for the food.  We used ivory table clothes and chair covers and used our Butler's Pantry china.  The food table had a table cloth on it that belonged to Kevin's great grandparents and candle sticks that were used at my parents' wedding.  I love special touches.

Our cake was delicious!  We had a local baker who also happens to go to our church and is a friend of our family's, make the cake.  I sent her a photo of my dress as well as a Pinterest photo of a cake I liked and she came up with what you see below.  We loved it!  We decided on a lemon cake with lemon curd icing between the layers and buttercream icing on the cake.  I loved the chocolate cake during the tasting and she surprised us with one of those, too.  We cut the cake using a pink glass knife that was my great-grandparents and used at both my mom's parents' and my parents' wedding.  Kevin had the same knife in blue that belonged to his aunt who he was really close to, and we used it, too.

Our wedding day was one of the best days of my life.  I feel so blessed to be married to Kevin!

Happy two months!  I love you!
