Our Fabulous Fourth!

We had a fabulous Fourth with our family and enjoyed a great weekend after, too!

My SIL and BIL have a huge party at their house every Fourth that is so much fun. This was my second year (and Kevin kept reminding me that it could've been my third because he invited me to it a few days after our first date and I didn't go because I already had plans to be at the lake with my best friend and didn't want to be the girl who cancels plans for a guy she just started dating. Had I known what I know now, I would've gone! ;) ).

On Thursday morning, Kevin and I worked on finishing up some painting while the boys played. We also made a few treats to take to the party - Oreo Balls, a dump cake and some Mexican dip.

It rained most of the week last week so we were really thankful to see the sun peering out from the clouds on Thursday. By the time we got to the party, the rain had started though. Thankfully, it didn't last long and we got to enjoy a great afternoon in the pool.

 Our sweet family!

Love him!

Kaden had the best time jumping from Stephanie to me!

K.C. - our fearless boy!

Three gorgeous ladies - my BIL's mom, my mom and my MIL!

My sweet boys!

We love our dad!

After swimming for a few hours, it was time for a delicious cookout followed by more swimming and some sparklers.

The boys love sparklers! They love watching fireworks, too, but from a distance - inside. After they did their sparklers and we had a "rain delay" on the fireworks show, we finally got to see some great fireworks.

We had a great time celebrating with our family on Thursday and enjoyed the rest of our weekend, too!

K.C.'s birthday is this weekend, so on Friday, I took him to Toys 'R Us and Target to pick out a few things he'd like for his party. Kaden fell asleep about .2 seconds after we got in the car, so he and my sister stayed cool in my car while K.C. and I went in Toys 'R Us. I'm happy to report that I have a great little shopper who only picked out 52 things he would like. Ha!

Before we left our house, I told the boys if they wanted to use some of their money to buy a treat, they could. K.C. decided not to use his since his birthday is coming up, but Kaden wanted to take his. In Target, he picked out a Scooby Doo movie that he wanted. I told Kevin that I haven't ever seen anyone so excited about spending money on something as he was. It was so cute! I let him buy his DVD by himself and he gave his brother the "shiney coins" he got back as his change.

After we shopped, KT, the boys, our niece, my sister, my mom and I went out to dinner. We took my niece home after we ate and hung out there for a while letting the kids play and working on some edits with my SIL for her book (I can't wait for you all to have a chance to read it - it's really great and I'm not just saying that because I love her!).

Saturday was a fun day. I bought a Belgian waffle maker when we were out shopping Friday afternoon, so we had real (you know, homemade!) waffles for breakfast. K.C., who loves waffles, literally exclaimed "These are so much better than our other waffles, Anna Belle!" I'm going to have to start cooking my sweet boy homemade waffles now.

Kaden and I made cupcakes after breakfast for Kevin's dad's birthday which we were having at our house later Saturday and then we went birthday shopping.

Kevin's cousin and his wife and kids were coming through town (they're in the Army and live in the Midwest), so we went by his parents to see them. It was the first time I'd met them and they'd seen the boys since the boys were old enough to remember them. Their kids are close in age to K.C. and they all ended up having fun playing.

Saturday night, everyone came over to our house for dinner to celebrate my FIL's birthday which was the day before. He ended up cooking his own dinner (chicken bog) and my SIL and I made the sides. I really think that's the way to go for family gatherings! The kids had a great time playing together and we had fun visiting with everyone.

After church on Sunday, we spent the afternoon playing. I love long weekends and they're even more fun when they're spent with our family!

How was your Fourth of July?

Do you have any fun traditions?
