I Ran Like a Nut

Last weekend, I ran in the Run Like a Nut 5K. This was my first ever race two years ago and I had a great time running it for the second time. I was first female and fifth overall.

I won't complain too much, but I wasn't really happy about my time - 21:23. This is way slower than most of my races and nearly a minute off of my race PR (20:25) and 2.5 off of my unofficial Garmin PR (18:54).

The morning was beautiful for a run. It was in the 60s or low 70s and overcast during the race. I woke up with a stuffy head, so I don't know if it was that, tired legs from my new class at the gym (an hour almost fully devoted to squats and lunges) or what, but I just didn't feel as fast as normal. I also ran without music, something I don't normally do in races. And I started out fast. My pace was about 5:30 half a mile in which is more than likely what caused me to get slow at the end. Realizing at about the 2 mile mark I wasn't going to PR, I just ran. Nevertheless, when I was told "first female", I decided to kick it up a notch and finished strong. It always helps when I see my three handsome guys standing near the finish!
